Here are my 10 favorite motivational books I have selected for you:

1. The smartest people are those who listen rather than talk.

Who focus on the other person rather than themselves.

Who give the other person the space to talk.

All of these and more are written by Dale Carnegie who has written the best book I have read so far, on effective communication and social skills.

The book is called:

Here are few quotes from the book:

Become genuinely interested in other people.

Talk in terms of the other person’s interests.

2. You become who you are by your thoughts.

Thoughts are the equivalent of cells in our body. Just like cells make up our body, our thoughts make us.

If you want to improve yourself, look closely at your thoughts first.

Here is a powerful self-help book that was first published in 1903 by James Allen and still has a lot of readers all over the world in this century.

The book is called:

Here are few quotes from the book:

Man is made or unmade by himself; in the armoury of though he forges the weapons by which he destroys himself; he also fashions the tools with which he builds for himself heavenly mansions of joy and strength and peace.

Man is always the master, even in his weakest and most abandoned state.

Good thoughts and actions can never produce bad results; bad thoughts and actions can never produce good results. This is but saying that nothing can come from corn but corn, nothing from nettles but nettles.

3. Co-founders of Quora(Adam D’Angelo and Charlie Cheever), the founder of Microsoft(Bill Gates), the founder of Facebook(Mark Zuckerburg) and the founder of Apple computers (Steve Jobs) were able to create( or invent) something big, something giant because they dreamed big.

They thought big things.

Anyone who has ever accomplished a big thing in history has first thought in his mind a big thought.

Here is a book on the power of our thoughts by David J.Schwartz.

The book is called:

Here are few quotes from the book:

“Believe it can be done. When you believe something can be done, really believe, your mind will find the ways to do it. Believing a solution paves the way to solution.”

“the thinking that guides your intelligence is much more important than how much intelligence you have”

“Look at things as they can be, not as they are.”

4. Can you think of selling the most prized possession you have?

That could be your car, your home, your electronic gadgets or taking out every penny from your bank account.

Could you imagine doing those things because you are not happy with what you have?

Because those things that you thought would bring you happiness did not give you one?

In a beautiful story created by Robin Sharma, you would follow the path of a hero in the book who sells his most prized possession (A Ferrari) because he was not happy with his possessions.

And so, he looks for what is missing from his life.

The book is called:

Here are few quotes from the book:

“A burning sense of passion is the most potent fuel for your dreams.”

“If you want to improve your life and live with all that you deserve, you must run your own race. It doesn’t matter what other people say about you. What is important is what you say to yourself, being comfortable in your own skin. Be true to you. That’s a key source of happiness.”

5. Most of us blame everything except ourselves for our circumstances and our situations.

The late Steven Covey said that our habits, i.e. our daily habits are what make and form us. Not external factors.

Covey’s book is the best book I have read on ‘ Habits ‘.

The book is called:

Here are few quotes from the book:

“But until a person can say deeply and honestly, “I am what I am today because of the choices I made yesterday,” that person cannot say, “I choose otherwise.”

“Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny.”

“If I really want to improve my situation, I can work on the one thing over which I have control — myself.”

6. Tell me something — — — -

· Have you encountered a big problem and given up because it was defeating you mercilessly?

· Have you raised both your hands and knelt down on your knees because your circumstances have made you weak and unable to stand up?

Viktor E. Frankl has an answer for you.

Your environment, your current situation, your difficulties do not have much power as much as the way you see those things in your mind has.

Frankl said that none of the external factors can take away your attitude, your strength, your personality, your dreams, your freedom and your full potential.

In this excruciating (because the author has written some of his painful experiences that have happened to him and his fellow prisoners when he was held captive) yet worthy book, see how Viktor kept his mind free of his captors (He was a Holocaust survivor).

The book is called:

Here are few quotes from the book:

“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedoms-to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one’s own way.”

“Those who have a ‘why’ to live, can bear with almost any ‘how’.”

“When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”

“Man does not simply exist but always decides what his existence will be, what he will become the next moment. By the same token, every human being has the freedom to change at any instant.”

7. · Have you spent so much time becoming lost and angry over an ex-significant other?

· Are you indecisive on what to do next?

·Have you spent so much time and energy over an unsuccessful endeavor trying to find the culprit who is responsible for the taking away of your failed endeavors?

· Have you screamed in frustration because a change has happened in your life which you were not looking for and did not want?

Spencer Johnson has written a wonderful book that helps you to deal with change in your work and personal life.

The lesson you find in this book is invaluable and you can read the whole book in less than 20 minutes.

The book is called:

Here are few quotes from the book:

“Life moves on and so should we”

“The quicker you let go of old cheese, the sooner you find new cheese.”

“If you do not change, you can become extinct !”

“The fear you let build up in your mind is worse than the situation that actually exists”

“Movement in new direction helps find new cheese.”

8. Developing positive thoughts will help you in every situations, from developing a positive character to being able to see the silver lining in difficult situations.

Positive thought allows you to see the good in people, to see a solution for a problem and to see the rose aside from the thorn.

Norman Vincent Peale has written many books in his life time, one of which is about the power of your positive thoughts.

The book is called:

Here are few quotes from the book:

“The way to happiness: Keep your heart free from hate, your mind from worry. Live simply, expect little, give much. Scatter sunshine, forget self, think of others. Try this for a week and you will be surprised.”

“When you get up in the morning, you have two choices — either to be happy or to be unhappy. Just choose to be happy”

“It’s always to soon to quit!”

“Empty pockets never held anyone back. Only empty heads and empty hearts can do that.”

9. People who are successful in life have become the winners of this life not because there are no difficulties in their lives.

Just like everybody else, they encounter difficult and enormous challenges.

What makes them different from others?

They outlast their challenges, their difficulties and their situations.

In the late Robert Schuller book, you will read how successful people are those who are strong enough to outlast tough times.

The book is called:

Here are few quotes from the book:

“Tough times never last. Tough people do.”

“Better to do something imperfectly than to do nothing flawlessly.”

“Let your hopes, not your hurts, shape your future.”

“God grant me the serenity to accept the things i can’t change, the courage to change the things i can and the wisdom to make difference between them. “

“Remember, you have been criticizing yourself for years and it hasn’t worked. Try approving of yourself and see what happens.”

“I forgive you for not being the way I wanted you to be. I forgive you and I set you free.”

“Every experience is a success.”

“The past has no power over us. It doesn’t matter how long we have had a negative pattern. The point of power is in the present power. What a wonderful thing to realize! We can begin to be free in this moment!”

These are just samples from the wonderful book by the late Louise Hay.
